I am Richard James. I have been self-employed in the property industry for 35+ years and have completed many varied projects.

 

Some of the larger works that show my capabilities, and carried out as Design Fit and Fix, are still visible on the linked website and here on the gallery page. I will do some of the medium sized projects but as middle age arrives, I am concentrating on the smaller jobs undertaken by the Handyman fit and fix side of the business.

Initially, I was going into the marine industry after gaining practical and business qualifications in boatbuilding and boatyard management. However, I diverted into the property business having been introduced to many renovations and property developments by my parents from a very early age.

​

I started in general renovation, buying and transforming properties for resale and later specialised in interior fitting. This included wardrobes, creating panelling, flooring, tiling, decoration and many other projects but for ten years my main focus seemed to be kitchens with around 350 kitchen fits, revamps and alterations carried out. In most situations the solutions had bespoke and custom elements to them.

This has been interspersed with a few development projects where I have designed, managed and fitted out houses in conjunction with other contractors.

Later there was a greater emphasis on exterior works including decking, hard landscaping, verandas, oak framed pergolas, porches and garages.

​

Throughout all of this time I have also done the small jobs that people ask for...... straightening those droopy kitchen hinges, assembling that troublesome flat-pack, hanging a picture or fitting some coat hooks, repairing pieces of furniture, installing blinds or shutters, refinishing wooden worktops and general decoration.
